Established: 2017

Owner Megan Corbett started Gold Leaf in 2017 to create a new community space in downtown Ormond Beach. Megan's background is not as a barista or shop owner - quite different. She's a US Air Force veteran who supported F-15 Strike Eagle squadrons in Alaska and Idaho, working her way up through the aircraft maintenance ranks and eventually becoming a Crew Chief. She left the Air Force after six years, and landed in Ormond Beach. At the time, the downtown area lacked a local coffee shop that could act as a relaxing place to study or work. Megan realized the opportunity, and worked with Frame of Mind Custom Framing and Art Gallery to leverage some underutilized space inside their studio. Gold Leaf is the result - a trendy coffee bar that serves the local community's daily coffee needs. Offering

Gold Leaf serves up a wide variety of espresso-based drinks. They also have batch-brew drip coffee, and a variety of bean choices for their pour overs. We love that part of Gold Leaf's menu. You'll find a dedicated selection of beans from Africa, Central and South America, and Asia - all locally roasted in Ormond Beach by Steel Oak Coffee (more below). Steel Oak also stocks the shop with delicious fresh cold brew. For the non-coffee drink menu, you'll find matcha, chai, and a selection of teas. Any and all flavor syrups are freshly made in-house.

If you're hungry, Gold Leaf offers a vegetarian-friendly menu with eggs, homemade bagels, scones, and waffles.

Hardware

The Centerpiece: La Marzocca Two-Group Linea

Gold Leaf uses a La Marzocca Linea espresso machine to pull shots for the bar. Top-of-the-line Mazzer grinders ensure consistency in the grind profiles for the batch and manual brew coffee offerings. For pour overs, Gold Leaf uses Kalita Waves - a little less common than the Hario V60 pour over sets found at most coffee bars. Kalita (based in Tokyo) has been producing coffee equipment since 1959. The Wave is known for producing a more consistent extraction through the brewing process vs. similar pour over methods. The result is a more smooth and balanced cup for us.
