Established: 2017

Lily Spennemann - owner of NewCity Coffee Co. - set out on a journey in 2017 to create a fresh, high-quality coffee shop in the Lake Mary community. Lily's roots trace back to Guatemala where she grew up in a culture surrounding by coffee. Upon her move to Florida in 2014, she found limited options for specialty coffee shops in the area. She did the natural thing - started her own! NewCity Coffee Co. was born. The shop maintains close connections to Guatemalan heritage by sourcing most of their beans directly from farms in the region. There's a community feel when you visit NewCity - many regular customers in Lake Mary have come to rely on them for their morning cup, and for good reason. Stop in and find out for yourself!

Offering

NewCity is serving up single origins and blends in all styles - espresso drinks, V60 and Chemex pour-overs, drip coffee, and cold brew. They also offer a range of specialty frappes for those that enjoy the sweet stuff. If tea is your thing, there are six varietals to choose from. In addition to their drink line-up, they offer a wide range of bakery items - all made fresh in-house daily. If you're looking for more than just a snack, the breakfast menu offers french toast, burritos, and awesome specialty toast dishes to satisfy your hunger. NewCity's food selection proves they're not just perfecting coffee!

The Centerpiece: Diedrich IR-12 Roaster

Espresso Machine: Rocket Espresso Milano Two Group Boxer

NewCity roasts fresh coffee each week in their Diedrich 12-kg roaster. Take a look - it's on the right-hand side as you enter the shop. Diedrich roasters are top-notch pieces of equipment, and a staple for many specialty coffee roasters in the business. Behind the bar, NewCity relies on a two group head Rocket Boxer espresso machine to do the heavy lifting. Rocket has been producing modern, high-quality, precision Italian espresso machines since 2007. The machines are handmade just east of Milan's city center. You may also notice a unique large drip brewing tower in the shop - this chemistry-set-looking apparatus produces a delicious cold brew.

Sourcing Style: Responsibly Sourced Single Origins & Blends

Roaster: NewCity Coffee Co.

NewCity's ties back to Guatemala shine through in the shop. They have personal relationships with multiple farm owners in Guatemala, and import the green beans directly for their single origins and blends. This direct relationship is one of the best ways to responsibly and transparently source coffee beans. They also source a variety of South American and Sumatran blends to add variety to the coffee selection. All greens beans are roasted in-house to a medium/dark roast on a weekly basis. This ensures NewCity delivers freshly roasted coffee to you each and every day. If you want to bring the flavors home, grab a bag to-go!
